SHIKIMIC ACID

Shikimic acid is naturally present in the dried mature fruits of Magnoliaceae plants such as star anise. It is a multifunctional component capable of protecting the skin and helping it maintain its essential functionality and has features as below:
-> belongs to AHA acids (alpha-hydroxy acids), but doesn't have an irritating effect, which makes it possible to use it by people with sensitive skin.
-> allowing the relaxation of the connections of epidermal cells (corneocytes), which results in exfoliation of the epidermis and encourages tissue regeneration.
-> It can inhibit the activity of the lipase enzyme, blocking the production of fatty acids, thus also acting as an odor control agent.
-> It has an inhibitory effect on the microbial growth of a causative agent of seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp.
